LYDIA B began as a school project back in January 2020. As a 17 year old training in classical Ballet, I also had a passion for art and sustainability.
Conscious of consumerism and the impact this has on our eco system, I was inspired to start a company to help combat the fast-fashion crisis. At the time the wildfires in Australia were still blazing. Despite being on the other side of the world I was greatly moved by the devastation, and after drawing up a simple kangaroo and koala design, within a week I began selling ethically produced charity T-shirts in aid of WIRES animal rescue association.
After raising over £2500 through the sales of my “I’ll take care of you” Kangaroo design, my A* graded project drew to a close… but we didn’t stop there. My small business survived the ups and downs of 2020, producing new designs with the same intention of making as little impact on the planet as possible. As well as sticking by our mission to help put an end to fast-fashion, promote sustainable clothing and inspire change, we have continued our fundraising efforts by supporting invaluable charities and organisations around the world with every purchase.
Special thanks go to the team of people – Mum, Cal, Broadside Screen Printers and Ashburton Post Office- without whom LYDIA B would still be the figment of an idea. And of course, thanks go to our customers, who responded to my mission and supported our journey with every purchase.
